The UAE Ministry of Defence said on Sunday that its air defence systems intercepted four ballistic missiles and 25 drones launched from Iran, as regional tensions continue to escalate. In a statement posted on X, the ministry said the interceptions took place on March 22, adding that all incoming threats were neutralised within the country’s airspace. The latest incident adds to a growing tally of aerial threats since the outbreak of hostilities. According to the ministry, UAE air defences have so far intercepted a total of 345 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and 1,773 unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Iran. Authorities said the attacks have resulted in the deaths of two Emirati armed forces personnel, along with six civilians of Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi and Palestinian nationalities. A total of 160 people have also been injured, ranging from minor to severe, including nationals from multiple countries across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The ministry reiterated that the UAE remains on high alert and fully prepared to counter any threats, vowing a firm response to any attempts that could undermine the country’s sovereignty, security and stability. The developments come amid ongoing military tensions between Iran and regional actors, with repeated missile and drone exchanges raising concerns over a wider escalation.

President Donald Trump attacked longtime American ally Canada as the “nastiest” nation in a Fox News interview on Tuesday.The comments came during an interview that aired in prime time on “The Ingraham Angle,” hosted by Trump superfan Laura Ingraham.xxYouTube Video“One of the nastiest countries to deal with is Canada,” Trump said. “[Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau]’s people were nasty, and they weren’t telling the truth, they’re never telling the truth.”Trump also reiterated his bizarre take that the United States should annex Canada, claiming “it’s meant to be our 51st state.” This line of argument has angered Canadian residents, while Trump’s decision to levy tariffs against America’s northern neighbor is expected to increase costs for consumers.Trump’s antagonism toward Canada, which shares a massive border with the United States, is considerably out of line with historical American attitudes. In a 2023 Gallup poll, Canada was ranked by American respondents as their favorite nation in the entire world, with 88% support—ahead of Great Britain, France, and Japan. Russia was next to last, just ahead of North Korea.Even Ingraham noted that Trump’s rhetoric toward Canada was harsher than against countries that have traditionally been American rivals.That disparity was on display in the same interview as Trump gushed about his “great call” earlier in the day with Russian President Vladimir Putin and informed Ingraham that they spoke for two hours. Data: PurpleLab; Map: Axios VisualsThe number of prescriptions for GLP-1 drugs jumped roughly 10% in 2024, according to insurance claims data provided to Axios by health analytics company PurpleLab.Why it matters: The data, which shows double-digit growth in 23 states, offers a snapshot of the sustained growth in demand across the U.S. for the drugs hailed as game-changers in the fight against obesity.By the numbers: Rhode Island (67.8%), Massachusetts (48%) and New Jersey (35.8%) saw the largest year-over-year growth in prescriptions dispensed between 2023 and 2024.There were declines in six states including Arkansas, Louisiana, West Virginia, Idaho, South Dakota and Vermont.Between the lines: The most prescriptions went to adults ages 55 to 65 (29%), followed by seniors 65 and older (26%). The vast majority of prescriptions went to commercially insured patients while only 9% were written for Medicaid patients. 17% went to patients on Medicare. The data is based on roughly 7.5 billion claims from private insurers, as well as Medicare — which only covers GLP-1s to treat diabetes — and Medicaid.The data captures prescriptions for Novo Nordisk's diabetes drug Ozempic, which has been widely prescribed off-label for weight loss, and Wegovy, which was approved for weight loss in 2021.It also includes Eli Lilly's diabetes medication Mounjaro and its anti-obesity medication, Zepbound, which was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in November.The data lumps the prescriptions together, so it's not possible to tease out how often these drugs are being prescribed for obesity versus diabetes or heart disease.
